Mandy Sellars, 41, has a rare condition that has left it with a size 10 upper body, but oversized legs and feet. In 2010 her left leg was amputated because she received septicemia, but she was stunned when the limb began to grow. Mandy has started taking a new drug that has helped her lose six stones from her legs, leaving her stunt. "It felt like a miracle, I couldn't believe it when I lost a stone after just five months on drugs, my legs were getting bummed," he said. "I am comfortable in my own skin, and proud of my condition and who I am. Mandy's legs and feet were five times the size that should have been when he was born. The doctors were confused by their condition, so Mandy went to life as normal. He went to school, to college and to college, but while his legs were still growing. Although his life was hard, Mandy could walk alone. However, he was finally told that amputation could be the only way to stop growing his legs. Bedbound to 20 stone: Two years later he measured one meter wide. "They were measuring me in the hospital for a prosthetic leg that they noticed that I had already grown up," he recalled. "I felt helpless. My body was taking over my life and I felt there was nothing I could do about it. "It felt like in a short period of time that I could become tied to bed and my life could end for me while my leg was still growing. In 2012, doctors finally told Mandy that a genetic mutation had probably caused his condition. It meant that her skin, fat, tissue and bone grew too much, and Mandy was excited to finally have a diagnosis. "I was on the moon," he said. "I never thought of my life that someone could find out what my condition was. "I felt like I'd been waiting all my life for that diagnosis, just to know what it was that made me like me." When I was offered a test medication, to try to reduce my leg, I went for it. "They had never offered me anything before that could stop the condition or shrink it. "For the next two years he lost six stones of his legs, and is able to move more easily. He has changed his life as he can do simple things, like going to his bed, no help. Mandy has an adapted car and needs her clothes to be specially made for her, but she's convinced that her recovery will continue.
